I’ll say this…

The real learning comes from a common core understanding from the courses and the private Facebook community.

It’s the regular feedback – the discipline of asking questions and assessing the work of others, and getting quick practical tips, that makes Photography Pro courses special.

I have access to all 3 courses and I found that the information is excellent and provided in an actionable way, but it is the community that keeps students engaged with it so regularly.

Bottom line:

The courses are half tutorial and half peer education through the FB group – I think that’s one of the real strengths of it (that you’ll love).

And this is true for all of his bestselling digital products:

Mark Hemmings Bio

Now…

I want to share a bit of background of your teacher to help you establish a sense of familiarity.

So, just who is Mark Hemmings?

MH is a professional travel, architecture, food, advertising, and street photographer. He began his career in the late 90’s and has now become one of the most sought-after artists in the industry.

In 2004, he began sharing his knowledge and passion for the subject by becoming a workshop instructor. Thanks to that career expansion, you get to learn from him today online too.

The thing about Mark is that he does not only want you the technical aspect of photography. Instead, he also wants you to discover the artistic side of it which will complete your entire experience.

Bestselling Courses by Photography Pro

Course #1: Digital Camera Mastery

This course will guide you to mastering your photography skills while also unleashing the full potential of your camera. It contains 7 main plus 4 bonus modules.

The videos are short and straight to the point, so I think it’ll be very easy for you to “digest” them. You get to choose whether to watch the entire module in one sitting, or do it part by part.

FYI, here’s my in-depth review if you want details.

So… what’s DCM about?

  • Module 1: The Essentials of Your Digital Camera

Mark shares with you some of the most common features of any DSLR or mirrorless cameras and how you could optimize it to its full working potential.

He also shares some techniques that will ensure you get those awesome photos in a snap.

Pretty basic stuff.

So if you already have some experience with cameras and photography, you might want to jump straight to the next module.

  • Module 2: Composing with Your Camera

As a photographer, you should pay close attention to your image’s composition as it can make or break a photo and Mark will guide you towards understanding this aspect easily.

He talks about the rule of thirds, shooting at different angles, using geometric shapes and so forth.

These lessons are fairly easy to consume too.

  • Module 3: Focusing Techniques

Here, the instructor shows some of the best techniques to use to produce tack sharp Instagram-worthy images.

Mark will talk about the different types of AF, how to use the Manual one properly, and how to get the dreamy background blur that portrait photographers love so much.

In here, he also talks about more advanced topics like depth of field and hyperfocal distance.

Focusing is an important aspect of photography, so pay attention to these tutorials!

  • Module 4: Camera Exposure Controls

Here, you will learn the different camera settings that will greatly affect the quality of your photos.

We are talking about the exposure triangle: aperture-shutter-ISO. This are important lessons and you might want to re-watch them a few times to really let it sink in.

Also, this module will teach you how to do away with the default settings and master the art of manual tuning.

  • Module 5: Lighting and Picture Control

This is where Mark’s advertising photography experience comes in handy. Two decades ago, he studied this genre in Japan for 1 year and it shaped his lighting style.

He’ll teach you how to get accurate colors with white balance, how to use exposure bracketing for tricky lighting conditions, how to do well in night photography and so forth.

Thanks to his learning experience in Japan, Mark approaches photography within the context of advertising and he offers great tips when it comes to lighting.

  • Module 6: Photography Genres

If you are not sure what photography style you enjoy best, this section might help you understand what you might enjoy best and experiment.

Topics covered:

  1. Wildlife Photography
  2. Sports Photography: How to Freeze Action
  3. Still Life: Using Window Light
  4. Family Photos: Document Lively Memories
  5. Landscapes: Capturing Nature’s Beauty
  6. Portraits
  7. Street Photography
  8. Travel Photography

There were a lot of things that I didn’t really know before. And I’m sure you will find something new too, even as an enthusiast photographer.

  • Module 7: Photography Gear and Accessories

This is a final tutorial where Mark talks about using smartphones vs large cameras, what lenses to use for what genre, camera accessories and so forth.

It’s good information for you if you’re an absolute beginner but enthusiasts with some experience might learn something new too.

Once you finish this entire course, I’m pretty confident that you will never be the same photographer as before.

Course #2: Photo Shortcuts

With this course, you can cut your way through mastering the art and science of photography as quickly as possible. Mark will teach you some advanced techniques that can definitely step your game a couple of notches up.

Topics covered in this training:

  • Lesson 1: 7 Stunning Shots that You Can Take Today
  • Lesson 2: How to Use Light for Taking Extraordinary Photos
  • Lesson 3: Creative Shortcuts to Unique Travel Photography
  • Lesson 4: Landscape and Nature Photography
  • Lesson 5: Portrait Photography
  • Bonus 1: Photography Fundamentals

Who exactly is PS for?

First, it’s for those advanced beginners who want to speed up their learning curve and generally have less intensive tutorials. It’s also for those who are serious about photography and want to get the most out of Mark Hemmings’ online courses.

If that’s the case, I suggest you go through Digital Camera Mastery first, then Photo Shortcuts and then Lightroom Editing Mastery.

Course #3: Lightroom Editing Mastery

This is another bestseller from the same instructor. Unlike the other two trainings mentioned above, this highly focuses on the post-processing aspect of photography.

(Specifically for Adobe Lightroom CC software users.)

Here’s an overview:

  • Module 1: A Quick-start Guide to Lightroom
  • Module 2: Simple Techniques for Perfect Color and Exposure
  • Module 3: Techniques for Cleaning Up and Selectively Adjusting Photos
  • Module 4: Fine-tuning Color, Detail and Composition
  • Module 5: Efficient Workflow Techniques
  • Module 6: Organizing Photo Collection
  • Bonus 1: Common Photo Editing Workflows
  • Bonus 2: Private Collection of 20 One-click Presets

Just like the previous 2 courses, the videos are short, straight to the point and offer a lot of value. Basically, you’ll hack your Lightroom CC workflow.

I personally loved it.

Are Photography Pro Courses Worth It?

Tell you what…

Mark’s way of teaching is very calm and interactive. He has a friendly approach which does not intimidate even those without prior knowledge on the subject.

Aside from that, the content of his lessons start from the fundamental aspects to the technical side of the topic.

Without a doubt, all of the courses were created with the beginners in mind, but they also work for enthusiasts who do have some experience with photography.

Now…

Are they worth the investment?

Since I personally took MH’s lessons, I am confident enough to recommend them as worthy options.

I know there are other good courses from other instructors online (and I’ve reviewed a bunch of them), but Mark’s lessons are pretty awesome.

Perhaps I’m biased because I like him not only as a photographer but also as a person 🙂

I especially like how well he teaches without being too authoritative. Also, his videos are very easy to consume, being the right length yet loaded with all the necessary information for that topic.

Let’s be real…

Enrolling in online tutorials can be quite scary sometimes. If there’s no free trial, you never know what you get until you get it. However, there’s no need to feel that way with Hemmings photography courses.

Why?

Because they are offering a no-questions-asked money-back guarantee for 30 days. So after watching a few video tutorials and you still don’t think it is the right course for you, then you can easily ask them for a full refund and they will accommodate that request in a matter of time.

However, I highly doubt you’ll ever ask for a refund since the lessons are just truly informative and helpful.

Not to mention being a part of truly helpful private FB community on your photography journey!
